FSC in the forest

An FSC forest certification confirms that the management of a certified forestry company meets the requirements of the FSC. Based on the FSC principles and criteria, the German FSC standard specifies these requirements, for example social and ecological criteria. The most important regulations in the FSC forest are briefly explained here.

FSC certification certifies that forestry companies manage their forests according to high ecological and social standards. Certification is implemented by independent certification bodies; FSC does not issue certificates itself.

In FSC-certified forests, young trees and plants should be able to grow naturally. Rare plant and tree species should not disappear due to excessive browsing by wild animals. Therefore, FSC-certified operations should aim for appropriate game densities.

The FSC system depends to a large extent on the participation of all people who have anything to do with the forest. Stakeholders are included in the development of standards and the certification processes of companies. Forestry companies are required to be transparent and have a say.

Forestry companies determine the amount of wood that can be used sustainably using recognized procedures. Local value chains have priority. Visible planning documents and precise documentation take into account the positive and negative effects of management as well as all forest functions.
